The Dominican University Division of Nursing offers an accelerated nursing program that combines strong classroom and laboratory instruction with up-to-date clinical experience in a wide variety of health care settings. The accelerated nursing program is approved by the New York State Education Department and fully accredited by the Office of the Professions and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
The Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) Weekday Option
The 12-month Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) Weekday Option is available for applicants who hold a baccalaureate degree in another discipline. The 58-credit curriculum includes all the components of the Traditional Nursing Option in an accelerated, back-to-back trimester format. Faculty are credentialed in their areas of expertise and experienced nurse educators. The full time, weekday schedule calls for students with motivation and dedication to their academics. The ABSN Option begins each May. All graduates are eligible to take the state licensing examination (NCLEX).

The prerequisites for the ABSN Option are:

• General Psychology
• Development Psychology I & II
• Chemistry I
• Biochemistry
• Anatomy and Physiology I and II
• Microbiology
• Pathophysiology
• Statistics
English and Mathematics Placement tests are arranged by the Office of Admissions and offered at Dominican University. A minimum grade of B- is required for all science prerequisites. Science prerequisites must be repeated if taken more than ten years prior to the start date of the ABSN Option. Applicants can apply to the program before completing all 11 prerequisites. However, all social science, science, mathematics prerequisites, and placement tests must be completed and documented by the Office of Admissions prior to starting the program.
Admission to Dominican University and the ABSN Option
Candidates send their official transcripts to the Office of Admissions and complete an application to Dominican University. Admission to the ABSN Option is a separate process conducted by the Nursing Division. Criteria for admission to the ABSN Option include a minimum baccalaureate GPA of 2.7, completion and documentation of all prerequisites and placement tests prior to starting the program, and the space available. It is strongly recommended that applications be submitted to the Office of Admissions by the November 1st prior to the intended ABSN start date.
